Schedule of Events
This year Jazz in the Schools is organized differently due to social distancing guidelines meant to keep students, directors, and clinicians safe. Instead of the traditional gathering in an open forum at UNR, this year the event will be virtual; students will actually be in their own music rooms at their schools where they will be mentored via live Zoom from our guest clinicians.
Thursday & Friday (February 11 & 12) Each clinician will lead four clinics (virtually) to eight total school jazz bands live online.
Saturday Morning (February 12) The clinician will lead two band director clinics (virtually) covering topics such as how to keep students motivated while at home, purposeful listening and practicing, and approaches to teach middle school students how to improvise.
Saturday Afternoon Concert (February 12) We will conclude this year's Jazz in the Schools program with an online concert featuring (RJO trumpeter) Julien Knowles’ Quintet performing his original compositions. The quintet will play thirty minutes, break to answer questions from the participating students, and then finish with another thirty-minute performance.
