Ignite the passion for jazz in your students! The Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) is dedicated to fostering the next generation of jazz musicians. Through our dynamic Mentor Program, we partner with schools across Northern Nevada and Northern California each semester, providing invaluable, no-cost support to your jazz ensembles.

Imagine the impact of having two dedicated RJO mentors join your rehearsals for a total of eight enriching sessions per semester. Our experienced musicians offer personalized feedback, guide students in the art of improvisation, refine essential techniques, and provide crucial instrument-specific coaching.

Witness firsthand the incredible growth that participating ensembles consistently achieve. Our mentors become integral members of your team, helping students unlock their full musical potential.

But the journey doesn't end in the rehearsal room. All partnering schools gain the exciting opportunity to showcase their talent at our prestigious annual Jazz in the Schools event each February and at the renowned Reno Jazz Festival.

To ensure continuous improvement and demonstrate the transformative power of the program, we ask directors to submit pre- and post-rehearsal recordings, capturing the remarkable progress of their ensembles. Furthermore, valuable feedback from students, directors, and mentors helps us refine the program each semester, making it even more impactful.
